 Uses for the Internet

By Dean Whipple, Automated Business Solutions

Communication

- E-mail is a great way to communicate with staff, vendors and customers. Especially since you can use it when you have the time.

Protection

- On-line off-site data backup can easily be done automatically, so you are always protected from theft, disaster, computer viruses and reckless or disgruntled employees.

Research

- Using a search engine like Google or Yahoo to find information about products, companies, events and really anything you can imagine.

Management Tools

- Contact Management, Time Tracking, Accounting, Inventory Tracking… you name it and it is available on-line. The two primary benefits are better pricing and access anywhere / anytime.

Selling

- Sell from your own website, third party marketing sites and/or auction sites like e-Bay.

Purchasing

- There are a lot of deals on-line, but remember: you will be paying for shipping. Warning: Since almost anyone can create a website, only purchase from companies you know.

Access

- With special software you can access your computers from anywhere.

Advise

- When you can’t find the information you need on Google, try one of the many forum sites. Forums allow you to ask questions and interact with subject experts and others just like you.
